The Mathematics of Weight Loss

A Fireborn Breakdown of Ruben Meerman’s TEDx Talk

I watched this video and felt something click in my spine. It was that moment when science finally backs what your body has been trying to tell you for years. Ruben Meerman steps on stage with beakers and dry ice like some chaotic chemistry angel and drops the simplest truth no one wants to hear.

You do not burn fat.
You breathe it out.

Fat is not melted.
It is not “sweated off.”
It is not erased by vibes or shame or a color coded meal plan.
Fat leaves your body as carbon dioxide. You exhale it. You literally breathe your weight loss into the air.

When your body breaks down fat, it is just doing math.
Fat is made of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen. When you metabolize it, the carbon atoms leave your body as CO2. The hydrogen binds up with oxygen and leaves as water. There is no mysticism. There is no mystery. It is chemistry. It is physics. It is the math that holds the universe together.

He gives the numbers like a slap.

Lose ten kilos of fat and eight point four of those kilos leave through your lungs.
The rest leaves through water.
Most of your “fat burn” is literally your breath. Your lungs are your real fat burning organ, and no one ever says that because the weight loss industry thrives on confusion and bullshit.

All diets work for the same reason.
Not because keto is magic.
Not because fasting “unlocks” your body.
Not because low carb is holy.
Every diet that works does the same thing. It forces your body to oxidize stored fat so you can breathe it out. That is the engine behind every before and after photo ever taken.

He also says the quiet part out loud.
Exercise matters, but not for the reason people push. You burn more fat breathing quietly all day than you do in one aggressive workout because you breathe constantly. Your resting metabolic rate does the heavy lifting. It always has.

The video basically confirms what I already lived in my own skin.
When my hormones were screaming, when cortisol was high, when insulin resistance had me locked in a metabolic chokehold, nothing worked. It felt like trying to outrun gravity. You cannot breathe out fat if your insulin is hoarding every calorie like the Great Depression is coming back.

The stellate ganglion block quieted the noise long enough for my body to remember how to function. My insulin resistance dropped. Not forever, but long enough to feel what it was like to be a human being again. Long enough to see what my metabolism was capable of when my nervous system was not in panic mode.

The math worked again.
The chemistry finally had room to breathe.

This video is simple.
It is sharp.
It takes all the moral weight loss nonsense and throws it into a fire pit.

Your body is not a moral project.
It is a molecular machine.
And the moment you understand the math, everything makes sense.

If you want a stable body, you need a stable brain.
If you want the chemistry to work, the hormones have to stop screaming.
If you want to lose weight, your body has to be allowed to breathe.

Literally.
