Working Out: Getting Started
Starting a workout regime can be a daunting task for anyone, no matter their fitness level. For me, it was important to find a workout that would push my body just the right amount in the beginning.
Let's face it there is no way that I was going to be able to jump into an Insanity workout or even go back to my old Tae Bo VHS tapes that have been gathering dust in the last decade. To be honest, I have tried to complete workouts that were no where near my current fitness level. About 15 minutes into a video, I would be lost, tired, and so much out of breathe I had to stop. This left me feeling like a failure. I felt that if I could not get through one workout tape then I would never have the strength to shift the weight. I have learned to accept the physical limitations of my body. Now I only do workouts that are challenging for me but also at my current fitness level.
My personal favorite for just starting out is the Chris Powell 15 minute beginner workout. It allows me to gauge my current fitness level. Some days the workout is super easy for me but then others I am huffing and puffing at the end. I like the fact that it is only 15 minutes which means I really don't have an excuse not to workout. Finally, I really like how encouraging Chris Powell is and his positive attitude brightens my day. Also, it doesn't hurt that he is easy on the eyes.
