Water Fasting: Day One
This site was created as part of my senior project to obtain my Masters degree. One of the goals for the site was for me to document my weight loss journey, in order to help inspire change in others. Now that I am nearing my graduation, I realize that I am nowhere near my weight loss goal. Which is why I am turning to an extended water fast to jump start my weight loss.
Throughout the year I have been practicing the 5:2 diet which will hopefully ease my transition into total food abstinence. This will be my third water fast. Every fast is different, but it does seem to get easier each time I do it.Water fasting can be dangerous, please do not attempt without proper medical supervision.
Many people are ignorant about the benefits that water fasting can provide, especially for an obese person like myself. Personally, my biggest obstacle for weight loss has been my food addiction. Water fasting is like rehab for food addicts. Water fasting helps me deal with food addiction by completely eliminating the problem from my life. I can only hope that by the time my fast is completed, I will have learned to not be completely dependent on food for happiness.
The goal for this fast is persistence. Water fasting is extremely daunting, scary, and lonely. The body begins to go through very weird changes when it is solely dependent on water. I broke my last fast out of fear and ignorance. My heart began to have palpitations at the slightest hint of exertion. It scared me because I felt like dying anytime I climbed the stairs or took too long in the shower. Water fasting is not something that the people in my life have any real knowledge about. There are the minor annoyances of someone cooking in the house or eating in front of you. Then there are the people who upset you with their hysterics about how dangerous water fasting is for a person. Which is ironic, since up until I explained what water fasting was that person had absolutely no idea what I was talking about. Hopefully, with the knowledge of past fasts and emotional fortitude I will be able to stick with this fast longer than my last one.
As day one of the fast is nearing its end I am grateful that I have this wonderful tool to help me on my weight loss journey.

- Mood: the past few days I have been really anxious but today I was calmer and able to focus - spent the day distracting myself updating this site
- Hunger: intermittent pangs of ferocious hunger
- Energy: low/sedentary - spent most of the day sitting at the computer
